Appalachian Assistive Technology Loan Fund Hires Executive Director
The Board of Directors of Assistive Technology Loan Fund (AATLF) is pleased to announce the hiring of its first Executive Director. Laura A. White-Brown of Morehead, Kentucky will assume the position on June 1, 2026. The non-profit organization experienced a year marked by profound growth, strategic clarity, and structural transformation culminating in the selection of Ms. White-Brown to lead AATLF.
Laura A. White-Brown has an extensive background in service to her community and the Appalachian region. She was elected the first female and youngest mayor of Morehead, Kentucky, and worked with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service in nutrition programs.
Laura earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion from Morehead State University and is pursuing a Master of Arts in Public Administration.
Susan Tachau, President of AATLF, said “The Board is excited that, as of July 1, 2026, AATLF will officially become a stand-alone nonprofit federal Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). While we are deeply grateful for the strong foundation established during our time as a subsidiary of Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation, this transition marks an important step in our evolution into an independent organization — one ready to serve our communities with renewed focus and autonomy”.
AATLF’s mission is to remove financial barriers to independence. In the past year, the organization successfully expanded its reach, growing from serving 75 individuals in 2024 to supporting more than 125 people in 2025 through the Mini-Loan Program. In addition, AATLF has extended more than $1.2 million in loans. Each dollar represents access to assistive technology — essential devices that help people with disabilities work, learn, communicate, and participate more fully in their communities. Established in 2021, AATLF made its first loan in Kentucky in 2023. Since that time, AATLF has made over $1.2 million in loans to 236 borrowers in Kentucky as of the end of 2025.
The organization is co-located with the Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation at 1004 West 9th Avenue, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, 19406.
